Rowbotham, Claude H

Claude Rowbotham (1864 - 1949) was a member of a talented family of English artists. He is best known as a producer of fine aquatints, as well as a respected watercolour painter.

Rowbotham is famous for the invention of a single plate coloured etching process, which he used to record topographical scenes throughout the UK.

When he died in 1949, he left behind a vast archive of printing plates covering some 500 different subjects. As per the instructions of his will these were all destroyed, leaving behind only prints.
